How to Reach Platanias

Symposium Location

The hotel is situated in the cosmopolitan area of Platanias, 12km west of the picturesque town of Chania and a 30min drive from the Chania International Airport. It can be reached by bus or taxi.

There are two international airports in Crete at Chania and Heraklion. We recommend participants fly into the Chania Airport (Ioannis Daskalogiannis International Airport, IATA code is CHQ) for the EMLG 2016 meeting.

The Chania airport is located 10 km East of Chania City, on the north west part of the island of Crete.
It is directly connected to Athens International Airport (ATH) with around 10 domestic flights daily by several airlines. There are also other direct scheduled connections from major European cities as well as charter flights from mostly European countries.
You can travel to Chania, Crete, from anywhere in the world via Athens, the capital of Greece. The distance from Athens is about 307 Km and air time from Athens to Chania is about one hour.

Alternatively, one can use the ferry-boat connecting Chania with the harbour of Piraeus (Athens).
The overnight trip takes about 7 hours.

When you arrive at the Chania airport, transfer to the Conference site is possible by:

You can take the bus from the airport to Chania bus station at the cost of 4,50 Euros and then from there you change buses and take the bus for Platanias at the cost of about 1,90 Euros. You can check out the times etc at http://bus-service-crete.com/default.html
There is a bus stop directly outside the Minoa Palace Hotel.

Arrival by Boat

Renting a Car

From Chania Airport to Platanias:

Platanias is 25 km from Chania airport. Αs you exit the gates of the airport grounds, you turn left at the first intersection.
Follow this straight road until you reach a traffic circle. At this traffic circle, you turn right (following signs for Chania).
At the next traffic circle you come to, turn left (going downhill) now following signs to Souda (port of Chania).

Continue going downhill, passing a large bowling establishment on your right hand side.
When you come to a set of traffic lights you should see a sign for a left turn to Souda port and a right turn to the New National Road.
Turn right in the direction of the New National Road. Pass a petrol station on your right hand side.
Take the on-ramp onto the New National Road signed for “Chania and Kissamos”, heading west (not heading east towards “Rethymno”).

Pass the first exit signed for “Mournies and General Hospital of Chania”. Pass the exits marked for “Chania and Omalos”, and “Galatas”.

Take the next exit marked for “Platanias”. Follow signs to Platanias (this takes you downhill to the main coastal road).
Turn right onto the main coastal road and keep going until you see the sign of “Platanias”.

From Chania city to Platanias:

From Chania city centre, take Kissamou Avenue, which leads to the coast road to Platanias. It’s an easy route and you can’t get lost.
